WoW Gold Secrets - An Introduction to WoW Gold Farming

By Dave Latimer

Unlike previous games in the Warcraft series, World of Warcraft is a MMORPG, not a real-time strategy game. "MMORPG" stands for Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, and as the name suggests, this is basically a virtual world where players interact. The first thing you do in the MMORPG World of Warcraft is design your own body and decide what your strengths will be, and then you are ready to start playing the game.

World of Warcraft is an incredibly rich, complex, and fascinating world to explore. However, playing a great game of World of Warcraft is not complicated once you know a few basics. Most of your efforts will revolve around collecting in-game gold, which you can then use to purchase in game items. Players can collect gold in a number of ways, most commonly through repetitive tasks such as killing monsters with other players.

Here's what's interesting: because there are over 9 million people that play World of Warcraft, many of whom take the game very seriously, gold farming has become big business. There are many players who will pay real money in exchange for virtual goods in a game. Mostly, these virtual goods are supplied by so called "Chinese gold farmers", who play the game up to 12 hours a day gathering gold in the game.

Once these Chinese gold farmers get gold or an advanced character in the game, they make money by selling it to players mostly in America for real world money. It may seem surprising that players would be willing to spend money for virtual goods in a game, but World of Warcraft "gold farming" is in fact a multi-million dollar business that is not going to go away anytime soon. The fact that 9 million people (many of whom are completely addicted) take this game very seriously means that there is a big demand for virtual in-game goods.

If there are so many people addicted to this game, you may be wondering why players would buy in-game gold rather than gathering it themselves. Well, for some people, the game only becomes fun once you have a high level character and lots of gold. So rather than spend hours upon hours doing repetitive tasks to level up their character, they prefer to pay someone in China to do it for them for a very low wage, rather than waste time leveling up themselves.
